Desperate to flee from the gambling halls after her gambler father's murder, and with no money, Rachel takes a job with a family as they travel west by wagon train. Her aunt in San Francisco has arranged for Rachel to marry a rich young man out there. Rachel craves stability after her childhood of traveling from gambling hall to gambling hall with her father. On the train she meets a gambler, Reno Hunter, who may have killed her father. Reno and Rachel are drawn to each other and soon enter into a relationship. She tells herself she can't fall in love with a gambler, but she can't stay away from Reno. He doesn't want to love any woman. Marriage and family don't suit the life of a gambler, but he can't keep his hands off Rachel.The wagon train and the hardships the travelers endure are very authentic. I felt I was right there struggling with them. Reno's two brothers are on the train, and lend humor to the story. The story moves at a fast clip, never letting up through twists and turns and danger.
I liked Reno and Rachel a lot, but I wish they hadn't fought so much. The love scenes were very steamy. This is one sexy book. There was a lot of back and forth before Reno and Rachel finally admitted their love for each other. I liked the epilogue and glad it was included to wrap everything up.
All in all, this was a good read and I thoroughly enjoyed it and was sorry to see it end.
