Cecelia Halbert is a funny, intelligent, and attractive fifty-year old Chicago-area author who feels isolated by her marriage to her emotionally vacant husband. She falls in love with a brilliant and unavailable actor who teaches her what love can be, illuminating the deficits in her dysfunctional marriage. The actor encourages Cecelia to take a no-holds-barred weekend trip to Santa Monica, ostensibly to engage in non-committal, non-judgmental sex with an Oscar-winning writer she met on Twitter. The trip results in an unexpected twist of events, shaking Cecelia's world and her conscience. Wondering if she has somehow created the drama in her real life in order to fuel her writing, Cecelia returns home to pursue the happiness that has always been just out of her reach. What readers are saying Cecelia's chats with Elaine and Barbara have the same sense of indulgence that comes from listening to good girlfriends dishing about their scandalous love lives. At times, Celia is shocking, and for me, her bold lifestyle and brassy attitude makes this story irresistible. My heart was torn over the David and Edward tug of war. It left me wanting more! I found myself living vicariously through Cecelia's adventures and trials, laughing and crying right along with her. Couldn't put it down. Cecelia Halbert is an author and a playwright living currently living in the North Shore suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.

I came across the fabulous Cecelia Halbert on Twitter. I followed her. She followed me. And then this book very quickly made it's way onto my iPad. You have to love social media, because you never know what gems you're going to discover.

And so it was with "Up The Hill" - a funny, honest and overwhelmingly real account of one woman's journey to live the life she knows she deserves but which is somewhat at odds with the life she finds herself living.

This was a "can't put down" read for me. I absolutely rocketed through it, so the actual reading part of the experience was over all too quickly for me - I'm a fast reader! But it has left me with much food for thought, so the pondering part of experience has just begun.

I'm at a different stage of life than the main characters in this wonderful book, but as I was reading the book, it struck again and again how many of the questions we struggle with are the same no matter what stage of life we are. Like I said, lots of food for thought.

How autobiographical it is, I don't know. From having read Cecelia's blog, I gather there are quite a number of bits and pieces from her own life that have made it into "Up The Hill", and I think that's part of what makes this book so very rich and interesting.

Reading this book is like having a conversation with your best friend. It's relaxed. It's approachable. It's real. And there's wine ... lots and lots of wine!

It's such a strikingly honest account of real life. I couldn't put it down.

This was a great book that I just could not put down! Every page was more shockingly hilarious than the one before! Check it out!
Loved this book! Funny and engaging from start to finish - it definitely left me wanting more from this talented author! Hope a sequel is in the works to find out what happens "in the spring"!
Cecelia, I commend you for your subject matter and the thinking process you displayed the characters to have. I found it "real" and very "human" - which are qualities that I truly enjoy in fiction.

The flow is very easy to follow. You take the reader through a steady timeline of events. You also took a chunk of the main character's life and let us experience it right along with her. It made her very identifiable.

I liked that it was a positive learning/growing experience for Cecelia, David, Edward & Wendy. And I liked the way you ended it. Again, very real and with a positive display of maturity level.

I hope that you continue to get more exposure through Twitter and your blog, and sell many, many more copies!
Husband, kids, career...from the outside she seems to have it all together. On the inside, she feels alone and unfulfilled until she starts a secret romance or two. One woman's journey through trying to navigate the life society tell her she should be happy with and fighting for the one that make her happy. Witty and introspective look at one woman's "mid-life" crisis, that all women can find relatable.
Thoroughly enjoyed Up The Hill's contemporary jaunt of Cecelia's passage through her honest dose of life, love, dreams and responsibilities, all of which she pursues headstrong with good intentions. She's bolstered by her two best friends who's honest feedback often honed with drinkable wine, are hilarious and warming as frank friendship can be. This is one of those engaging reads you just can't put down, without wondering what's going to happen next.
